Music producer Chicco Twala is all over the news after he was arrested on Monday for allegedly assaulting and pointing a firearm at a City Power technician on Sunday night.

According to reports, the incident took place outside his Bloubosrand home studios in the north of Johannesburg when the technicians were responding to a power outage complaint.

He was detained at the Douglasdale police station Monday night and is due to appear at the Randburg Magistrates Court on Tuesday on assault and for pointing a firearm, police confirmed.

“We can confirm that a 59-year-old man was arrested today 2 May 2011, for assault and pointing of firearm in Randburg. It is alleged on 1 May 2022, the suspect and the complainant had an altercation where the suspect then pointed the complainant with a firearm. Two toy guns were confiscated from the suspect,” Gauteng police spokesperson Brig Brenda Muridili.

However, Twala said his arrest was proof that he was not above the law as many people have linked him to a cover up in the murder of former Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.

The alleged scuffle took place outside his Bloubosrand property in the north of Johannesburg when the technicians were responding to a power outage complaint. Power in the area had been out since Wednesday.

According to City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena, they are yet to restore power in the area as technicians are fearing for their lives.

Mangena said the utility’s test branch located the fault and were working towards repairs and restoration when Twala approached them and told them to leave because he had electricity. – Online
