Doja Cat, real name Zandile Dlamini, has been making waves in the industry for a very long time. Her success in the music industry has earned her many accolades, including a Grammy this past Sunday. While the congratulatory messages flooded in from fans world wide, one message did not sit well with tweeps, and it’s from her father.

Taking to Instagram, the former The Wife actor, Dumisani thanked people for supporting his daughter. This after her hard work got recognised by the prestigious award ceremony.

Doja and her fellow industry mate SZA took home a Grammy for their collaboration Kiss Me More, which won them the Best Pop Duo Performance.

Instagram users are not impressed by this and they flooded his comments section with some pretty mean comments.

People are telling him to get a job and forget about her like he did when she was still a kid. Others are angered by this especially because Doja once revealed to Whoopi Goldberg that she does not know her father in person.

In a video clip, Doja told Whoopi that her father played alongside her in the 1992 hit film Sarafina! Whoopi like the rest of us, was left shocked by this, and she then nodded in slight sorrow when the rapper told her that she has never met the actor, but Whoopi did. The rapper showed great honor to meet Whoopi who was in the same film as he. Whoopi did however pay the actor a compliment and said the actor was “a good man”.

Dumisani however refuted those claims that they do not know each other. Speaking to Mo Flava on Metro FM, he said, “I have been looking for my daughter as well. You mustn’t forget these Americans. Americans will always want to have something to cause a stir, so that she stays in the media and is talked about around the world,” he said.

“I have tried to search for my baby and the company that runs her entertainment has been blocking me. They know that if I could get hold of her, maybe she will disappear from the picture … I know my daughter, wherever she is, is looking for me.”

“I am close to my kids, all of them. I love them and they love me,” he concluded.
